Michal Sela
Murdered on Thursday, October 3rd, 2019
She was 32 years old.
Michal Sela grew up in Moshav Beit Zeit in Israel, the fourth of Daniela and Raphael Sela's six children. Michal, who was 32 years old at the time of her death, had completed her master's degree in social work a few days before she was murdered. Throughout the course of her life she was a giving, caring person, involved in extensive social activities.
On October 3, 2019, Michal was brutally stabbed to death in her home by her partner and the father of her infant daughter - the only witness to the horrible murder. The killer is the man she brought into her heart and home, the father of her baby daughter.
Michal cared for, supported, rehabilitated and accompanied the mentally challenged, youth at risk, elderly Holocaust survivors, victims of sexual assault with special needs, and children with emotional difficulties and with physical disabilities.
Michal did not know she was in life danger. She did not know that she should not break up alone with a jealous and obsessive partner. She thought she was strong and could break up with him on her own. Out of bereavement, Lili Ben Ami, Michal's sister, founded the Michal Sela Forum (NGO) which set the goal of zero femicide per year by saving the next murdered woman through technology and innovation.
The killer was convicted of aggravated murder and sentenced to life imprisonment.
