Katerina Charalambous
Murdered on Monday, September 14th, 2020
She was 18 years old.
Katerina was 18 years old and a mother of two children, one 1.5 years old and the other 5 months old. From an early age, Katerina loved to dance and dreamed of creating her own dance school. She loved children and loved to take care of them.
Katerina met her abuser through a friend, when she had already had her first child with her first partner. During one of the incidents of abuse, he threatened to kill her. Two days after the birth of her second child, she sought refuge with her paternal family, where she moved in. Her ex-partner visited her there, and asked persistently to see his child. He insulted her, blamed her, pulled her by the hair and hit her badly in the presence of her children.
For 10 days, she and her children were hosted in one of the shelters of the Association for the Prevention and Handling of Domestic Violence. She left the shelter when the perpetrator asked to get back together and promised that things would change.
A few days later while driving together a violent argument erupted, which led to a horrible car accident. Katerina died violently and instantly. The toxicology test had shown that he was driving under the influence of alcohol and illegal substances. There is evidence that the night before, another incident of abuse took place.
The perpetrator was sentenced to 15 months in prison for the causing of death by negligence.
