Eleni Topaloudi
Murdered on Wednesday, 28th November 2018
She was 21 years old.
Eleni was a fourth-year student of Mediterranean Studies in Rhodes. She left her hometown of Didymoteicho to start her new life.
She met a guy and they started dating. One night he came to pick her up with a friend of his and invited her to join them at his friend's vacation house. At the house she was pressured to perform sexual acts with both of them. She refused and the perpetrators resorted to violent acts.
Eleni’s body was found by a member of the Coast Guard in Lindos. According to the forensic report, she was gang-raped. She was then attacked with an iron object and lost consciousness. The perpetrators carried her body to a nearby beach and threw her into the sea. According to the information presented by the medical examiner, it became known that Eleni was still alive, as the cause of her death was drowning.
The two young men confessed their acts. In their testimony they stated that she was tortured at the house and begged them to take her to the hospital, shortly before her death. Adopting the prosecutor’s proposal, the Mixed Jury Court of Athens unanimously imposed the maximum sentence on both defendants.
The murderers were sentenced to life imprisonment for the crime of murder and 15 years in prison for the crime of gang-rape. No mitigation was recognised.
