Iris Gorelik

Murdered on Monday, April 30th, 2013
She was 39 years old.

One evening, Iris was late coming home. That was very unusual. She has always been an immensely dedicated mother to her three sons. Iris's mother immediately went looking for her, including at the house of her ex-husband, from whom Iris had separated several years earlier. She knocked hard on the door, but there was no answer. The mother had a terrible premonition and she returned to the house with the police. She asked the officers to break the door open, but such an act had to be authorized by a duty officer who could only arrive the next day.  The next morning, Iris's ex husband finally answered the phone. He claimed he had no idea of Iris's  whereabouts, but said he would be happy to assist with the search.

While they were on the phone, the police arrived again at the house but did not find anything suspicious. Suddenly, on their way out, one of the officers noticed stains and wounds on the man's hands. The police broke into the locked bathroom and to their horror, discovered a large black solar water heater containing caustic soda and Iris's disintegrating body. Her belongings were scattered everywhere.

Meanwhile at home, Iris's son found out about the murder in news reports. In agony and despair, he grabbed a knife and attempted to commit suicide, while Iris's  mother fought to retrieved the knife. Today, Iris's mother is raising her three grandchildren, whose mental state is still fragile and traumatised.

Her murderer was sentenced to life in prison, and his wife is serving a 15 years sentence, after being convicted as an accomplice to murder.
