She was 53 years old
Ilse was an ambitious and hardworking woman. She studied law at university. During her studies, her father, who served as the mayor of Aalst, died after a long illness. It was an extremely hard blow for her, but she recovered and completed her studies with honors.
While she was in university, she became a member of the city council, and became a lawyer. When she married on 1996, she decided to spend more time with her family. She withdrew from political life for a while and became the happy mother of Alec and Janik, she was very devoted mother to her children.
At the same time difficulties began to appear in her marriage, Ilse suffered a lot from this. With her special enthusiasm, following her father, she became mayor of Aalst in 2007. This was the moment to work with all her energy for a total renewal of her city. Later, she became alderman in Aalst and carried out these mandates with equal commitment and energy.
Ilse was very active during her tenure to promoting the status of weak women in need, and especially condemned the phenomenon of violence between spouses through the "White Ribbon" campaign. All along, her motto: was "because people are important”.
The Corona crisis took everyone by surprise. Ilse had allowed love back into her life after a long time with her new partner. At first luck seemed to smile to her. But soon her partner started to show narcissistic traits such as jealousy, manipulation and aggression. Ilse tried to help her partner and calm him down, but to no avail.
Suddenly, on the night between August 3 and 4 2020, she was murdered in cold blood with six blows from a hammer, while she was sleeping.
The murderer was sentenced to 30 years in prison + 5 additional years.
